Date(s)

Extent

In the late 1970’s, a decision was made to tear down South Hall. This was greatly controversial and contested by faculty and students and an effort was made to designate the building as a historic site. In retaliation, a “Save South Hall” campaign was launched that featured t-shirts, buttons, petitions, and a special committee. This successful endeavor resulted in its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and in subsequent renovations in 1992-1993 that maintained many of the building’s original features.
