Fall of 2024 the centennial time capsule was opened to investigate the condition of the contents to unveil for the 150th celebrations formally. The condition of the contents of the capsule was mostly destroyed due to the contents of a can of BPR. No paper materials were recovered, but many duplicates already exist in the archives. Only 3D and textile materials were saved and cleaned.

hockey puck

In 1975, Head Coach Don Joseph led the men’s hockey team to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championship game in Superior, Wisconsin. While the team did not win, they held a record of 13 wins and 14 losses, with a total of 27 goals for the season. A hockey puck was added to the time capsule with the season’s scores, likely in honor of their participation in the Championship.

Moo-U UW River Falls T-Shirt

The University of Wisconsin–River Falls, often dubbed “Moo U” by rival schools, has deep roots in the study of agriculture. Instead of being offended, the university owned the nickname and made it part of its identity.  What started as a dig at the ag students turned into a new title for the school.

Pair of jeans

Along with historical documentation and artifacts, it was decided that the centennial time capsule needed a “personal touch.” This idea was realized as a pair of worn, patched blue jeans. Donated by a campus student, the jeans were considered “the most valuable addition to the capsule.”

Sigma Chi Sigma was a local women’s honor society that started at UWRF in 1940’s and operated through at least 1987. It was built on the pillars of service, culture, and sociability. Each year, the sorority granted a $150 scholarship to a freshman student with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
