This series contains miscellaneous administrative files including Assembly Bill 800 establishing the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1969; draft materials relating to the 1974 centennial catalog; university mission statements (1968-1975); materials on Brotherhood Week, Campus Community Day and the annual publication luncheon for former Student Voice and Meletean employees; Salary Committee records including procedures used in awarding faculty salary increases and sample faculty rating forms (1969-70); a 1965 study on the university's image in the community conducted by journalism professor, Don Brod; and miscellaneous materials including grant proposals, travel requests and scholarship recipient lists.

Mainly letters (1943-1944) from mother, Karine, sent to John W. Stayberg, while serving in the military during World War II. Topics generally cover everyday activities happening around town and in life. Also includes correspondence from family and friends in the Hudson and Twin Cities metropolitan area and military colleagues, as well as any associated clippings sent with the correspondence. Also included is a short biography on Stayberg and reminiscences about how the archival collection came to be held by donor, Nancy Hawkinson (1999).

John "Bubbs" Winston Stayberg was born in Hudson, Wisconsin on May 8, 1923, the third and youngest child of Karine Marie (nee Jenson) and John Arnt Stayberg. John graduated from Hudson High School in 1941 and worked for Brown & Bigelow , a well-known printing company located in St. Paul, Minnesota, following high school. On June 30th, 1942, John W. Stayberg registered for the military draft, and was enlisted on February 4th, 1943. Stayberg served for 27 months, earning the rank of Corporal while serving with the 16th A. I. B. (Allied Intelligence Bureau), 13th Armored Division. He was reported missing in action April 30, 1945, and died from injuries sustained May 6, 1945 in Germany. Stayberg is buried at the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, Wisconsin. [Biographical information taken from collection.]

Letter, 1947 December 20, presumably by Dr. Boyd Williams, superintendent of the Williams Sanatorium of Hudson, Wisconsin. The letter writer, who signs himself simply "Dr. Boyd," conveys his Christmas greetings to a friend. The letterhead shows a picture of the Sanatorium grounds.

Records include Declarations of Intention (1907-1950), Petitions for Naturalization (1907-1953), Naturalization Records (1888-1906), Naturalization Petitions Granted (1929-1953), Index to Naturalizations (ca. 1870-1945), and Certificates and Oaths (1907-1944).

Record of credentials of clergymen which were required to be filed before being authorized to perform marriages. Entries usually include name, denomination, geographic assignment, and name of authorizing ecclesiastical superior.

Registers of elected or appointed court and county officers and justices, showing title of office, name of officer, officer's residence, date of election or appointment, term of office, and (where applicable) date bond filed.
The record for 1873-1943 also shows date the oath was filed and official before whom it was taken; and (where applicable) date bond made, dated bond approved, amount of bond, and names of two sureties.

Record of execution of Circuit Court judgments ordering payment of a specified amount with interest and/or costs, showing for each case in which a writ of execution of judgment was issued, the names of plaintiff(s) and defendant(s); party against whom judgment was rendered; amount of judgment, costs, and/or interest due; date writ of execution issued; to what officer of the court writ was issued; to whom delivered; and date writ was returned to the Clerk of Circuit Court. Record also usually contains remarks of the officer who returned the writ, stating whether judgment was satisfied or no property was found which could be seized to satisfy the judgment.

Minutes of civil and criminal case proceedings in open court that document the name of presiding judge; names of officers, jurors, and witnesses sworn; cases called; motions and orders during trial; jury verdicts; and openings, recesses, and adjournments of the court.

A summary record of daily proceedings before the court in civil cases. Contents include titles of cases heard; notes regarding actions taken by the court; lists of witnesses called; appearances and motions made by attorneys; records of documents filed with the court; and judgments and settlements delivered.

Court record volumes for both criminal and civil cases tried in Pierce County Circuit Court. The volumes generally provide name of plaintiff and defendant, names of attorneys, action or charge, and filing dates of papers. Criminal record identifies the municipal district where the crime was committed. Volume 1 includes criminal cases from the years 1879, 1883-1933. Volume 2 (original civil volume 1) covers civil cases from 1875-1895 and Volume 3 (original volume 4) covers civil cases from 1930-1945.

Record also sometimes shows case number and date docketed.

The Veterans Club or "Vets Club" was a student organization at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. It was a social and service organization for the benefit of student veterans. This collection includes a ledger with member names and fees due for the quarter, orientation books for members, photographs, and other ephemera materials.

Phi Kappa Phi is a national honorary society whose mission is to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others. The Society also recognizes outstanding achievements by students, faculty, and others through various awards and through invitations to membership.

The records in this collection includes the petition to the chancellor in 1987, by-laws and member directory, a secretary manual (1987-1991), recognition of the 25th anniversary, and photographs from awards ceremonies in the 1980s.

Assorted records from the court, including materials relating to the organization of the Village of Siren, 1913; one certificate of ordination, 1938; one marriage license, 1906; criminal statistics, 1932; one defendant tally sheet, 1936; a certification for the Union Indemnity Company, 1931; a court order designating the First National Bank of Grantsburg as a public depository, 1937; and two memorials, one to lawyer and judge William R. Foley, 1940, and one to circuit court clerk Newton Hickerson, 1909.

The Civilian Conservation Corps, established in 1933 and active until 1942. It was part of the New Deal, a series of programs established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the Great Depression, and employed young men between the ages of 18 and 25 for manual labor work on Federal Lands. 182 of the over 16,000 camps were in the state of Wisconsin, including the 626th, 633rd, 3661st, and 4610th camps.

Minutes of the Common Council meetings, including reports, resolutions, summaries of election results, and other supplementary documents. Included are the draft notes of the minutes found in volumes 1 and 2. The notes contain portions of the minutes not found in the official volumes.

Burnett County probate volumes that document records regarding estate, administration, executorship, wills, sales, and heirship. Executors and wills volumes include similar material to probate and administration: last wills and testaments, documents regarding administration, appraisal and inventory of real estate, and claims. The general inventory volume includes inventory and appraisal of real estate and oaths of appraisers.

Treasurer's records (1868-1942) showing receipts and disbursements, balance statements, and in some cases, the purpose of payment and the person paid. Clerk's record books, 1900-1961, contain school board minutes, financial records, and teacher contracts. School registers (1916-1961) indicate names of teachers and pupils, attendance records, remarks concerning the promotion and progress of students, and a register of visitors.

District records consisting of a clerk's book (1866-1932) containing minutes, financial records, and teacher contracts; a librarian's book (1896-1901) recording books loaned to each pupil; and folders of annual reports (1917-1952), school census (1923-1951), and clerk's correspondence (1933-1952) including dissolution of the school district. School registers (1868-1900) show each pupil's name, age, grade, and attendance record, daily program, subjects studied, and visitors record.

Volume that records complaints in police justice court. Gives the charge, summary, fees, and court costs. It is likely that many of the cases were remanded to the County Court.

Clerk's record of election returns, containing copies of County and District Boards of Canvassers' statements listing names of persons elected and showing county-wide vote totals for 1859-1930 and precinct vote totals, 1876-1930. Also contains copies of State Board of Canvassers statements of votes cast by soldiers claiming St. Croix County residence (1862, 1863, and 1865). Results of certain elections are missing from this record.

Clerk's journal recording city expenditures. This record is cross-referenced to Order Books "A"--"E" and Ledgers, Vols. 1 and 2. Included in Volume 1 is a record of dog taxes collected, 1912-1913, listing date of collection; name of owner; name, breed, and color of dog; and amount paid. Also included is a list of persons to whom it was forbidden to sell or give liquor, 1912-1918. Volume 1 covers 1857-1894 and Volume 2, 1894-1917.

Records, 1980-2004, consisting of clippings, certificates, photographs and four scrapbooks documenting the events supported and held by the club members. 4-H is an organization of young people across America who learn leadership and life skills while supporting the agricultural sciences. Mann Valley 4-H organized events that the youth develop skills while participating in activities that teach them healthy living and citizenship. The 1990 photographs capture a dinner's activities including a bonfire, trivia game, and hayride. The four scrapbooks consisting of photographs and news clippings capture the club's various annual events including talent show, softball games, and fairs.

Papers of Folsom, an Indian trader, lumberman, land speculator, Minnesota politician, and steamboat owner, including correspondence, 1841, 1851-1900; an account book, 1841-1844, from his business dealings in Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and papers relating to Folsom's activities in the Mississippi-St. Croix Valley. Two additional volumes contain cargo records and passenger lists for his steamboat, the Wyman X, for 1870-1871. Among the correspondence are two letters describing bad conditions in the 1863 Army campaign in the Dakota War of 1862.

The UWRF Archives utilizes web crawling software, Archive-IT, through the Internet Archive. There are four main collecting areas UWRF Websites, Social Media, and electronic Newsletters, and a few Websites from Burnett, Pierce, Polk, and Saint Croix Counties.

Opera Hotel register (1887-1901, 1941) includes names, addresses (generally limited to city if any), date/time, rooms rented, and a notes field. Since many of the guests were in the entertainment industry, many entries include creatively devised advertisements for the performances or other additional information on the group and type of entertainment provided. A note, dated 1941, appears to have been added by a later owner of the register. According to the River Falls Journal, the register was in the possession of W. A. Freeman when the fire that burned the building formerly housing the Opera Hotel, burned in 1921.

Artificially collated collection of manuscripts materials donated by a number of individuals living in or otherwise associated with Burnett, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties. Includes both primary source materials, such as abstracts, warrantee deeds, correspondence, photographs, certificates, marriage records, etc., in addition to secondary sources, such as compiled genealogies and other records. Collection is no longer being maintained or added to as of January 2020.

Included are documents and reports presented at county board meetings which often were incorporated into the proceedings of the county board, circa 1880-1919; reports to state and federal agencies including county school reports, circa 1860-1890; taxation reports, 1870-1900; reports on the sale of explosives, 1942-1945, emergency relief, 1930s, and rationing, 1941-1945; the results of a survey of county clerks in Wisconsin, 1927, regarding purchasing duties; scattered correspondence mainly pertaining to taxation and county finances, 1880-1930; a folder of undated maps of various parts of the county; and two letterpress volumes of the clerk's outgoing correspondence, 1899-1905.

Records of debits and credits to the accounts of the towns and villages in the county and accounts for county agencies such as poor relief, schools, and roads. ?b Shows date, amount credited or debited, who paid or received the money, and in some cases the purpose for payment. Some volumes credit individual towns for money received from tax sales.

Circuit court cases dealing with civil actions. Legal papers include complaints, summonses, affidavits, petitions, court orders and decrees. Cases #1-1479, 1888-1930, consist of civil actions and cases #1493-3789, 1931-1971 consist of divorce cases only.

Files of primarily criminal cases in Circuit Court including complaints, summonses, warrants, motions, appeals, judgments, and orders. Cases relate to criminal offenses such as murder, assault and battery, adultery, larceny, fornication, illegal liquor sales, vandalism, and gambling. The few civil suits involve monetary transactions and personal disputes including divorce. Criminal case files include #1-366, 468-839, 925, 1403, and 1441, roughly dated from 1866-1962 (bulk 1866-1930). Civil case files include #1-100 (circa 1866-?) and #5086, #7966, #8141-8171 (1916-1939).

Twenty volumes of records of land sold for unpaid taxes, 1857-1933, listing purchaser's name , description of land, purchase price, tax certificate number, date of redemption, redeemer, and remarks; 11 volumes, 1859-1954, recording the assignment and redemption of the tax sale lands; and one volume of accounts of tax certificates, 1885-1913.

Certified annual statements submitted to the County Clerk by clerks of all towns, villages, and cities within the county, pursuant to Wis. Stats. 68.01. Statements list state, county, municipal, highway, and school district taxes and special assessments levied, and for what purposes; loans outstanding from the state; special charges owed by the municipality to the state or county; assessed valuation of lands subject to school district taxes; tax rates; and amount of bonded indebtedness. Copies of these statements were submitted to the State Department of Taxation and its predecessor, the Wisconsin Tax Commission.

Reports of audits of county financial records, conducted by the state. Each bound typescript report is arranged in sections corresponding to the following county offices: Clerk and Treasurer, Highway Department, Register of Deeds, County Court, Sheriff, Clerk of Court, and Justice Courts. For earlier years, reports of audits of the County Home and Hospital are included in the county volume. After 1941 they are separately bound.
Reports are present for these years: 1927, 1928, 1935-1941, 1949-1957 (county offices only), 1958-1959, 1960-1962 (Home and Hospital only), and 1964 (county offices only). Additional reports may have been added since this cataloging.

Dockets kept by Justices of the Peace of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd wards and for the city at large, summarizing the processing of minor civil and criminal cases, showing names of parties, pleas, verdicts, judgments, fines, and other related procedures. In some instances, the Justices of the Peace functioned concurrently as Police Justices.

Transcript of a World War I diary kept by Eldon C. Kinne of Ellsworth, Wis., describing his voyage to Europe as a soldier and his troop's movements in England and France from about August to December of 1918. Also included is a telegram announcing his death on December 28; an affidavit by his aunt, Alvina B. Davis Warren, which appears to be related to survivors' benefits; an undated tintype photograph of this aunt, Alvina B. Davis, at age 8; and a program for a memorial exercise at the American Legion Eldon C. Kinne Post No. 204 at Ellsworth. At the time of his death, Kinne was a member of Co. F, the 342nd Infantry.
