The Scrapbooks are arranged chronologically by year. Clipping within the books are arranged alphabetically by a paper published. These scrapbooks were compiled by Al Boeck, Director of the Public Relations Department and Journalism Instructor.

The Quarter Abroad program began in 1963 by Dr. Robert B. Bailey, III. The program was conceived as a special opportunity for students of the university to engage in experiential learning projects and independent travel in Europe. The duration of the program was initially a quarter of the academic year and switched to semesters after 1971. With few exceptions, the program focuses on studying in Europe. In 2004, the program name was changed to Study Abroad: Europe to emphasize this.

Blanche Alice Reardon (1901-1957) and Nellyebelle Reardon (1908-1989) were born on a 20-acre family farm in Kinnickinnic Township in St. Croix County Wisconsin. The youngest of eight children, the girls moved with two siblings and their mother into the Town of River Falls by 1920, where Blanche completed teacher training at the State Normal School at River Falls (now University of Wisconsin- River Falls). The sisters followed a brother to Chicago and utilized their musical and performance training to start the Reardon Sisters act. They toured Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan for a variety of audiences throughout the 1920's-early 1930s. Blanche Reardon married Charles Cannon, an intellectual property lawyer from Superior, Wisconsin in 1935 and the Reardon Sisters discontinued performances shortly thereafter. Nellyebelle married George D. Tolpo in 1942. (biographical information taken from collection)

The Regional Development Institute, formerly the Rural Development Institute houses the Survey Research Center. The RDI Building was originally used as a UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine satellite facility. In 1986, work began on gaining funding to establish a Center for Rural Development and Education in Western Wisconsin. Funding was from the Otto Bremer Foundation of St. Paul Minnesota.

Papers, 1941-1945, consisting of World War II journals kept by Richard P. Rivard, of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, chronicling his training at Camp Haan, California, with the 215th Coast Artillery (AA), Battery D, time stationed in Kodiak, Alaska and in the European theater. An undated manuscript illustrated with photographs and ephemera, which he based upon his journals, details his time in Europe and his homecoming (Days of the War in Europe: January 1 to April 1, 1945, Volume I-II). Also included is one compact disc containing PDFs of scans of the journals.

Records of three civic committees concerned with hospital services in River Falls, Wisconsin. The River Falls Health Facilities Study Committee in 1972 studied the feasibility of both City Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital continuing to operate. A Hospital Steering Committee in 1975 met to implement merger recommendations which culminated in organization of River Falls Area Hospital, Inc. The third committee represented is the River Falls Area Hospital Capital Development Campaign Committee which began meeting in 1990 to raise $1,000,000 to finance a new hospital building.
Included for the 1970s committees are meeting minutes; correspondence with state and local officials, consulting firms, and others; a report from consultant Glunz-Strathy Associates recommending merger; newspaper articles; and by-laws and regulations of City Hospital and the new merged hospital. Minutes, mimeographed issue papers and planning documents, and a printed brochure are present for the 1990 committee.

Records of a recycling center established in 1981 in River Falls, Wis. by Peter Muto, a University of Wisconsin-River Falls professor, and other concerned citizens. The center, which collected aluminum, glass, paper, and recyclable cardboard, operated as a non-profit corporation until 1989, when Pierce County began its own recycling program and the center disbanded. The collection consists of a nearly complete set of minutes and financial records documenting the operation of a recycling center in a small community. Also included are contracts, the constitution and bylaws, correspondence, photographs, reports on operations, and a study of solid waste in Pierce County conducted by the center on behalf of the county.
