Scope and content

The UWRF CHILD Center seeks to provide quality care to the children of UWRF students, faculty, staff, and to the community at a reasonable cost. The center also serves as a fieldwork site for programs including early childhood, elementary education, communication sciences and disorders, social work, and counseling and school psychology. We believe that children learn through active interaction with their environment, peers, and nurturing caregivers, recognizing the individual needs and nature of each child.

The CHILD Center cost a total of $1.1 million for building, staffing, and furnishing. It was funded entirely by student fees and grants. It is 7,800 square feet, featuring six classrooms, a kitchen, a motor-skills activity area, and work and storage spaces. The project began in 2000 and was worked on by the Child Care Advisory Committee, Child Care Building Committee, Child Care Project Group, and UWRF Foundation.

Records in this collection include grant applications and awards from the Department of Education for scholarships for students who had children at the CHILD Center. Records relating to the planning, construction, and dedication of the Child Care Center Building. Information about budgeting and staffing for the Child Care Center.
