              Koudelka, Kristopher

              Kristopher discusses his appreciation for the Wisconsin in Scotland experience and describes the support systems offered to students while overseas. He also touches on the trip being important for socializing with people from outside of the United States. Later, he talks about cultural differences such as the role of pubs in the UK and the pace of living.
              He briefly describes his time as an intern for the Royal Dick Vet Clinic.
              Kristopher explains the ramifications of 9/11 on himself and the other students who were overseas at that time.
              As an employee for Point Loma Nazarene University, he created a relationship with the Wisconsin in Scotland program and details his new perspective on the program as an educator. He then explains COVID-19’s impact on the program.
              He brings up the “invaluable” experience of learning history and art while being in their physical spaces as opposed to seeing photographs.
              Kristopher talks about the living situation and the strengths of having cohorts. Additionally, he briefly touches on accessibility of the Wisconsin in Scotland program.
              He then discusses having his two children overseas with him and that he appreciates being able to give them that experience.
              The interview concludes with a short conversation about the program director, Faye.

              McPherson, Kirsten

              An interview with Kirsten MePherson, who was a student at UW-River Falls participating in the Wisconsin in Scotland program in the Spring of 1998. Interviewed by Morgan Paavola.
              Kirsten discusses the lasting influence of the experience and establishing a love of travel following her time in Scotland. As an older student, she attended the program not necessarily for course credit but for the experience. She discusses her relationship with UWRF Faculty member Faye Perkins and creating lasting connections. Recalls a road trip to Ireland and stopping to talk to a man who was digging peat in a bog. Describes living at Dalkeith Palace, creating a community with the other residents, and having access to phones to call home. Brief mention of a ghost encounter at Dalkeith Palace.
              She attributes the program to directly influencing her career as an educator and administrator. She taught internationally for two years in the Dominican Republic. Leads groups of other students to travel abroad and encourages her students and others to travel as much as possible. She discusses gaining Independence and confidence to travel more and experience new things. Introducing her child to traveling and the world. Has traveled to all 50 US states and continues to travel abroad whenever possible.

              UWRF Series 181 · collection · 1986-2011

              Wisconsin in Scotland International Studies program was first offered in 1986 by the West Central Wisconsin Consortium WCWC. The cooperating universities in the consortium included UW-River Falls, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stout, and UW-Eau Claire. The program offered students a semester or year-long educational experience and cultural immersion. The program is now administered by UW-River Fall and partners with other universities across the United States.

              This collection is arranged alphabetically by sub-series. Contents include, but are not limited to, correspondence newsletters and publications on the program. Dalkeith Diary Newsletter contains excerpts from staff and students about life, daily activities, and reflections. Other series include scrapbooks, yearbooks, and photographs that detail events, activities, and daily life of students participating in the program.
