The Grassroots Political Conference, aimed to generate interest in political affairs, was held at Wisconsin State University River Falls from 1958 to 1976. The Department of Social Sciences organized and sponsored the program, which featured two days of lectures and debates on current political topics. The event drew politicians, business leaders, and industry experts from across the country, and it was open to the public for attendance.

This collection contains correspondence to potential speakers, brochures, programs, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other materials relating to the conference.

This collection is comprised of records relating to Greek societies on the River Falls campus. This collection mostly contains records of Fraternities and Sororities, at local and national levels. Also included are some academic and honor societies. Most of the Greek organizations were focused on civic involvement, leadership, and life-long friendships, others also focused on specific subject areas such as Agriculture. The records in this series include but are not limited to, constitutions and by-laws, meeting minutes, events and activities, member lists, and correspondence.

The botany and horticulture greenhouse was begun in 1971. This series includes one bound volume containing the project specifications and contract for the construction of the building, the blueprints of the greenhouse, and a rolled diagram of the ventilation system. Also included are materials regarding the greenhouse expansion in the 1980’s.

Records of the association including a plat map, lists of lot owners and of perpetual care lots, burial permits, legal documents such as an 1863 property deed, and financial records.
The cemetery, also known as the Glass Valley Cemetery, is located in Pierce County, Wisconsin, Town of River Falls, which assumed responsibility for the cemetery ca. 1946.

Papers of a River Falls, Wisconsin, Superintendent of Schools documenting the attempt to establish a county nurse program in Pierce County with the aid of the Wisconsin Anti-Tuberculosis Association and state health officials; including correspondence, public health reports, WATA press releases, miscellaneous near-print material concerning public health law and public health nursing in Wisconsin, and an essay and poem about the county nurse.

Habitat for Humanity is an international organization whose mission is to “eliminate poverty housing from the world by making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. The organization's mission is to establish affordable housing, build and rehabilitate homes, and raise funds.” (Constitution, folder 3) This collection consists of the records from the UWRF Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The chapter was a part of the broader Habitat for Humanity group and connected specifically to the St. Croix County Habitat for Humanity organization. The students involved in this organization traveled to other parts of the country and helped build homes.

The collection contains papers mostly from her professional experiences as a teacher. Also included are some personal papers. Lastly, a few school materials of Duane Haddow’s are included in the collection. Lovina Lucile Haddow was born in 1885. She graduated from the River Falls Normal School in 1904. She taught English at the River Falls State Teachers College from 1917 to 1940. After her retirement, she married Pemmer Johnson. She died in 1975.

This series contains materials related to the Hagestad Union Board (HUB) including calendars; budgets; circular letters; event information; and policy documents. Hagestad Union Board sponsors such student activities as films, May Daze, Game Room activities, and Superstars. Additions to this collection in 1994 include Concerts and Lectures Subject Files with information on HUB-sponsored speakers who came to the university in 1984-1990.

Biographies by Haglund of Hans Johan Swedenburg, 1816-1900, and his wife and children. Swedenburg was a Swedish immigrant who settled in the Warrentown area of Pierce County, Wis. Included also are 1936 reminiscences by Anna Swedenburg Haglund, daughter of Hans Johan, describing the founding of the Tabor Lutheran Church in Pierce County.

Clerk's copies of Town Board of Supervisors' warrants submitted to the district overseers of roads. Gives name of person taxed, description of property taxed, the value of the real estate, the total amount of the tax, and in some cases, the value of personal property and poll tax. The tax monies received were used for road and highway care in the respective districts.

Legislative papers of a Democratic assemblyman (1959-1978) from Luck, Wisconsin, who was noted for his wit and his advocacy of liberal political positions. The collection consists of personal and constituent correspondence, subject files, bill files, and microfilmed biographical material.
Prominent correspondents include William Osborne Hart, Hubert Humphrey, Gaylord Nelson, David Obey, Walker D. Wyman, and John Wyngaard. The subject files also include newsletters, press releases, form letters, and speeches. There is some material pertaining to reelection campaigns.

Mimeographed 3-page typed letter from Preston, a storekeeper of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, to the "Spring Valley Sun," describing the early history of that town, beginning with its first settlers in 1859 and describing the influence of the Eau Galle Lumber Company (for whom Preston did some logging work), the Wilcox family, the iron business, and Preston's father, who was the community's first storekeeper and deputy postmaster.

Biographical sketches of Harvey O. Powell (1868-1944) and his wife, Elizabeth Knox Powell (1869-1954), written by Mary Elizabeth Powell Polglase.
Harvey Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Powell of River Falls, Wisconsin, was a banker in White Rock, S.D., and Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada, and an officer of Dominion Agricultural Credit, Regina, Canada. A native of Brewster, N.Y., Elizabeth Knox taught at the River Falls Normal School, 1890-1891; and married Harvey Powell in 1893.

Photocopy of a paper written by Anderson for a University of Wisconsin-River Falls geography course which studies the cultural and economic aspects of life in the settlement of New Centreville, St. Croix County, Wisconsin in the early 1900's. Included is Mrs. Selma Anderson's recollections of the buildings, people, and businesses that made up the hamlet at that time, and copies of several newspaper articles concerning the history of New Centreville.

Material related to the provision of public health services in St. Croix County, 1936-2015. The records include health committee meeting minutes (1936-1955, 1961, 1974-2015); financial records (1943-1967); a manual for nurses (circa 1952-1962); pamphlets and brochures an various public health issues (1948-1952); and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings (1972-1974).

Papers of Minnesota's first governor during his years as a fur trader, consisting primarily of correspondence among the various American Fur Company agents located in the Wisconsin Territory. Correspondence concerns internal company business; business with Hudson's Bay Fur Company; company agreements with the Dakota Indians; company interest in United States government treaties with the Dakota, Ojibwa, and Winnebago Indians; attempts by the company to prevent war between the Dakota and the Sauk and Fox Indians; relations with missionaries to the Indians of the region; and company disputes with Indian agents Henry R. Schoolcraft and Lawrence Taliaferro.

Financial journal of Herman Hillskotter from Town of Star Prairie, St. Croix County, Wisconsin, detailing farm expenses and income as well as dairy and grain prices, farm labor costs, and livestock records. Also included in the journal are financial records of the Town of Star Prairie, 1906-1918, when Hillskotter served as town clerk, and of School District No. 4, 1911-1916; a record of the number of feet of wood sawed per day, 1900-1903, at the B.B. Lumber Co. of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; and records, 1899-1900, from a boarding house which Hillskotter and his wife operated in Rhinelander, prior to moving to Star Prairie.
