Research and annotated resources related to two of Wyman's publications: "The Wisconsin Frontier", published 1998 by Indiana University Press and "Kinnickinnic Country : River Falls in the forties and fifties", published in 2010 by PrintArt, with assistance from Don Richards.

Walker "Mark" Demarquis Wyman, Jr. (1939-) was born in River Falls, Wisconsin to Walker D. and Helen B. (nee ) Wyman. He attended the Ames Laboratory School on the campus of what was then called the River Falls State Teachers College (RFSTC), now known as University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), where his father served in several leadership roles.

Dr. Wyman served 35 years as a professor in the Department of History at Illinois State University and is the author of eight books and numerous essays and articles. Wyman's scholarly focus is on labor, cultural, and social history.

Papers of Marion E. Hawkins, 1939-1993, an English professor at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, containing personal correspondence; photographs; information on Grace Pilgrim Bloom, the oldest graduate ever of the university; lectures given at National Taiwan Normal University; and extensive travel journals from trips to Europe and Taiwan, 1969-1984. A 2013 addition contains her correspondence, personal diaries, travel diaries and journals, coursework and speeches, personal materials and photographs. Arranged by date and consisting primarily of letters sent to Hawkins by her friends and employers, her correspondence comprises the majority of this collection. Information in the letters reveals how Hawkins' work as a professor and additional volunteer activities influenced the university. Hawkins' home diaries record both her daily personal and professional activities including the classes she taught. Her travel diaries document her trips both abroad and in the United States and detail her personal travel experiences, description of the various locales, and contemporary news of the countries in which she is visiting. She later used these travel diaries as background material while writing her travel journals which she compiled to formally express how she experienced these foreign lands.

The records include a photocopied minute book, with minutes of church meetings, 1886-1931, and a short history of fundraising and building plans for the first church, 1881-1885 (both in Swedish); a membership roll listing members born as early as 1848; Ladies' Aid Society minutes (mainly listing newly-elected officers) and an expense book; and miscellaneous papers.

Records, 1980-2004, consisting of clippings, certificates, photographs and four scrapbooks documenting the events supported and held by the club members. 4-H is an organization of young people across America who learn leadership and life skills while supporting the agricultural sciences. Mann Valley 4-H organized events that the youth develop skills while participating in activities that teach them healthy living and citizenship. The 1990 photographs capture a dinner's activities including a bonfire, trivia game, and hayride. The four scrapbooks consisting of photographs and news clippings capture the club's various annual events including talent show, softball games, and fairs.

Papers of a one-time Maine mill worker and a speaker and writer on behalf of women's rights. A teacher in Prescott, Wisconsin, in 1861, Mrs. Whitaker then farmed with her husband in Point Douglas, Minnesota until 1904. Documenting her personal life and her opinions on women's rights, the collection consists largely of letters from family and friends in Maine, Prescott (Wisconsin), and St. Anthony (Minnesota). Also present is one 1865 letter from William Lloyd Garrison, family memorabilia, and a notebook from her lectures on women's rights.

The Lewis, Stephens, and McKay family collection consists of family papers of three generations of Welsh and Irish immigrants who settled in western Wisconsin. Daniel Lewis (1821-1887) emigrated from Wales, first settling in Green Bay and working in the logging business. In 1854, he moved to Hudson, Wisconsin continuing in the logging business before becoming a full time farmer. In 1859, he married Catherine Walsh (1836-1926) with whom he had six children, Hannah Eliza, Margaret Ann, Evan Walter, David James, Mary Frances, and Elizabeth Jane. Mary Frances (1873-1961) married John Stephens and had two children, Elizabeth and Mary Esther. Only Mary Esther (1906-1990) survived to adulthood and in 1936, she married Gerald Eugene McKay and they had six children. The collection consists of correspondence (both within the United States and family members in Wales), land transfers, tax receipts, obituaries, cemetery records, oral history transcripts, restoration records, class notebooks, certificates, diplomas, and photographs.

In the fall of 2014, English 361: Theories of Composition students visited the UWRF University Archives and Area Research Center for a class assignment. The instructor, Conan Kmiecik, asked the students to write a letter to posterity that would be added to the UWRF Archives collections.

This collection contains 22 letters from students on index cards, there is also a letter from Conan Kmiecik explain the assignment and his hopes for the future.

  • Letter from Vincent Price (1978) to David and Sam Day thanking them for company and dinner. David, then Manager of the University Bookstore at UWRF, assisted Price when he was on campus for an interpretive performance on February 12th, 1978. Day was responsible for picking up Price from the airport, bringing him to his hotel and the event at UWRF, and then making sure he had dinner, returned to the hotel, and made his flight out the following morning.
  • b Day and his wife, Sam (a student at UWRF) prepared a meal for Price at their home in the event that Price accepted their invitation to dine at their home. David Day later asked Price about why he had accepted their invitation. Price, a noted gourmet, said that "...he had been traveling a lot and was missing home. So he then explained why when we offered a home meal, he accepted without hesitation."
    The Days served ham with pineapple carousal and scalloped potatoes, which Day would comment on in 2020, "How very mid-western...". Price was a very gracious guest and even though Price said that "...he wanted to be back to the hotel no later than 11:15", he didn't make it back to his hotel until well after 1AM. His thank you letter to the Days, undated but mailed within the week after the event in a stationary envelope from the William Penn Hotel in Pittsburg, PA, stated, "What a delightful time you gave me in River Falls. I did so enjoy your company, the audience and reception and especially our visit in your home!"

UWRF Series 174 · collection · 1990-2009.

Between 1991 and 2009, the Kansas City Chiefs called UWRF their summer home. For a few weeks during the summer, the Chief’s players and staff would convene in River Falls to hold their summer training camp. The team utilized services on the UWRF campus, including lodging in the campus dorma. During the programs 18-year period, the training camp had an immensely positive social and economic impact on the River Falls community. Special events were held throughout the camp for community members and visitors to interact with players. Events included a parade, Family Fun Night, scrimmage games, and other social events where fans could meet players on the field for autographs and pictures.

The Chiefs played scrimmage games against other teams, in what was called "The Cheese League," comprised of other National Football League teams that also spent the summer training in Wisconsin, teams included, the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears. The promotion and recruitment of the teams were pursued by then Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson seeking to promote tourism in the state. Mary Halada, who served as the Camp Coordinator, and Mark Kinders, Director of the News Bureau, ran the program.

This collection contains program administrative files, promotional materials, newsletters, and newspaper articles. The materials document the camp’s activities, and events surrounding the program each year. There are also materials for the year preceding their arrival, concerning the decision to relocate to River Falls for summer training. In addition, there are materials that were gathered to put together a 15th-anniversary booklet in 2005.
