The 10% or Ten Percent Society was a student-run organization at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, formed in 1991. The mission of the organization was to provide a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for students, encourage awareness about Gay and Lesbian issues and provide social opportunities for members. Membership in the organization was open to all, regardless of sexual orientation.

This collection consists of records from the Ten Percent Society Committee for the years 1990-2000. These records include but are not limited to; membership lists, correspondence concerning the organization's activities, constitution and by-laws, event pamphlets and flyers, campus climate surveys, news articles, and personal letters to the organization's president, Mandy Fox.

Papers of astronaut and former Wisconsin State University-River Falls student Daniel C. Brandenstein, containing biographical information, letters, portraits of Brandenstein and photographs taken during shuttle missions, newspaper clippings, and certificates concerning his various NASA space shuttle missions. The collection also includes some objects that he used in space, such as dehydrated food, a specially designed WSU-RF T-shirt, and a mission patch.

The Student Voice is a student-run newspaper at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. Beginning in 1916, as a weekly publication, was used to inform the campus community of events, and happening around campus. The publication includes local business advertisements and articles on local and national news.

Subject files of the Registrar's Office include incoming correspondence, reports, enrollment statistics, exam schedules, and subject files. Also contains UWRF and UW System promotional material as well as information regarding Go to College Day on campus.
The subject files include incoming correspondence regarding class credits and licensure; outgoing memorandums to faculty regarding final exams, honor roll, and registration; enrollment statistics; exam schedules; degrees conferred reports, and other reports.

The Student, Staff, and Faculty Directories include contact information for campus departments, students, faculty, and staff. The directories also include ads for local businesses in the River Falls area. Student Directories from1919-1950 were compiled by students on the Meletean Staff. In 1963 the Sigma Tau Epsilon Fraternity took over the responsibility of creating and distributing the directory. Followed again by Theta Chi from 1968-1980. In 1980 the River Falls Centrex System was responsible for a complete university directory, with the name changing from Student and Faculty directory to Campus Directory in 2002. Printing of a campus directory ceased in 2013.

Habitat for Humanity is an international organization whose mission is to “eliminate poverty housing from the world by making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. The organization's mission is to establish affordable housing, build and rehabilitate homes, and raise funds.” (Constitution, folder 3) This collection consists of the records from the UWRF Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The chapter was a part of the broader Habitat for Humanity group and connected specifically to the St. Croix County Habitat for Humanity organization. The students involved in this organization traveled to other parts of the country and helped build homes.

Miscellaneous photographs and postcards, mainly duplicates and photocopies of originals, displaying places, people, businesses, buildings, and scenery in the four county region (Burnett, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties) of Wisconsin.

Papers of Minnesota's first governor during his years as a fur trader, consisting primarily of correspondence among the various American Fur Company agents located in the Wisconsin Territory. Correspondence concerns internal company business; business with Hudson's Bay Fur Company; company agreements with the Dakota Indians; company interest in United States government treaties with the Dakota, Ojibwa, and Winnebago Indians; attempts by the company to prevent war between the Dakota and the Sauk and Fox Indians; relations with missionaries to the Indians of the region; and company disputes with Indian agents Henry R. Schoolcraft and Lawrence Taliaferro.
Correspondents prominent in the early history of Minnesota and Wisconsin include William Aitken, Frederick Ayer, Alexis Bailly, Bernard Brisbois, Ramsay Crooks, Henry Dodge, James Doty, Hercules Dousman, Jean Faribault, Alexander Faribault, Joseph Nicollet, Henry Rice, Joseph Rolette, Henry Schoolcraft, Lawrence Taliaferro, and Lyman Warren.

This series is not complete and some programs are missing. The programs in this collection consist mostly of home games produced by UWRF. Others are produced by the opponent’s home team or for conference championships or meets. Information includes but is not limited to, team rosters with a brief biography of players, athletic department information, opponent roster, early-season scores or results, and news articles. Other information includes local advertisements.

This collection is comprised of records relating to Greek societies on the River Falls campus. This collection mostly contains records of Fraternities and Sororities, at local and national levels. Also included are some academic and honor societies. Most of the Greek organizations were focused on civic involvement, leadership, and life-long friendships, others also focused on specific subject areas such as Agriculture. The records in this series include but are not limited to, constitutions and by-laws, meeting minutes, events and activities, member lists, and correspondence.

Series includes general correspondence from the presidencies/chancellorships of James W. Crabtree (1911-1917), Jesse H. Ames (1911, 1917-1946), Eugene H. Kleinpell (1946-1967), Richard J. Delorit (1967-1968), and George R. Field (1968-1985). Highlights include correspondence with students in military service (1917-1921); materials relating to the Smith-Hughes Act and problems at the River Falls Normal School as a result of its passage (1917-1929); and correspondence concerning curriculum, faculty and legislation. After 1930 most of the correspondence is of a formal business nature. Included is correspondence concerning Foundation business, arrangements for guest lecturers, development of the Graduate School and the transitions from Teachers College to State College (1957) and from State College to State University (1964). Most of the early correspondence (1911-1930) concerns prospective students (applications, and boarding and employment inquiries, students and recommendations for graduates). Some job applications are included. Correspondence with men in the military, including a list of River Falls Normal students in service dominates the files from 1917-1921.

The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, NCATE, an autonomous and voluntary body, was organized in 1952 for the purpose of accrediting college and university programs of teacher education in the United States. Since 1956 it has been the only national accrediting body for the field of teacher education recognized by the National Commission on Accrediting.
Included in this series are the NCATE constitution and standards, correspondence concerning the evaluation of the River Falls State University, and other materials relating to the accreditation of the school by the NCATE. This collection also includes the visiting team report and final report, granting or denying reaccreditation. Information includes, but is not limited to; program descriptions, statistics, curriculum planning, faculty preparation, student admission and retention, program planning, review, and evaluation.

This collection contains academic program audits and reviews for undergraduate and graduate programs at UW-River Falls. Information includes, but is not limited to; course statistics and test results, alumni surveys, self-study tools, correspondence, and resumes of faculty.

The bulk of this collection contains records relating to the approval of the chemistry program by The American Chemical Society, Committee on professional training. Programs are reviewed every 5 years, and reports and information include, but are not limited to, program and class enrollment, curriculum materials, faculty loads, budgets, and facility information. The 1990 review materials include course materials, syllabi, and student papers.

Also included in this collection are, photographs and two videos of chemistry demonstrations from the Chemistry Family Day, building program files for Centennial Science Hall, and the guestbook from the dedication of the building. The earliest records in this collection are two ledgers of meeting materials from the Chemistry Club.

Correspondence includes information concerning new legislation affecting education, accreditation, curriculum changes, proficiency examinations for and the licensing and certifying of teachers, and workshops and seminars.

The “Faculty Bulletin”, first issued by the River Falls State Teachers College administration in the fall of 1946, was designed as a communicative vehicle for faculty and administration, and included announcements and information emanating from both sources. They were published periodically throughout the school year, providing information concerning new staff and assignment changes, activity calendars, and changes in programs and school services. The “Bulletin” was discontinued during the 1973/74 school year in favor of a new publication, “This Week”.

Admission Statistics include Applications received for Fall Quarter; Summary of Applications; Distribution of High School Rank Percentiles for New Freshmen by Sex and Resident Status; New Transfer Students; Returning Students. Registration Statistics include Reports to the Board of Regents and U.S. Office of Education; Enrollment of Foreign, Graduate, and part-time students; Enrollment by College and High School, Summary and Student Lists; Enrollment by Classes, Student Lists.

The River Falls Normal School was designated a training site for the Student Army Training Corps in September 1918. The Corps was a government training mechanism for training students for the Army prior to officers' training schools or technical schools.

This collection consists mainly of form letters from the War Department concerning S.A.T.C. programs, contracts, and policies. Also includes vouchers, student record cards from Fort Sheridan, IL, and R.F.S.N.S. Homecoming and Memorial Day program with S.A.T.C. roster, June 1919, and photographs.

This series contains various graduate department course syllabi (1966-1972); graduate faculty circular letters and bulletins; graduate faculty nominations (1960's-70's); Graduate School catalogs and class schedules (1960/62-); accreditation materials (1962-1967); studies and surveys of the department (1965-1974); and miscellany including Graduate School releases, course proposals, summaries of theses, and promotional materials.

The Graduate School at River Falls offered its first program in the summer of 1963. Dr. Walker Wyman was the first Graduate Dean followed by Dr. Phillip S. Anderson.

The Council of Graduate Deans is a statewide organization formed to coordinate the activities of Wisconsin’s Graduate Schools.

This series contains directives from the Board of Regents and Reports and Newsletters to the Graduate Deans throughout the University System.

In 1942, a chapter of the Association of Wisconsin Teachers Colleges (AWTC) was formed on the River Falls campus. The name later changed to the Association of Wisconsin State College Faculties (AWSCF), reflecting the liberal arts granting privileges in the 1950’s. In the early 1960’s, with the addition of graduate offerings at the state colleges, the name changed again, this time to the Association of Wisconsin State University Faculties (AWSUF). In 1972, after the merger of the Wisconsin State Universities and the University of Wisconsin System, the name changed to The Association of University of Wisconsin Faculties (TAUWF). The organization’s purpose is to promote the general educational welfare of UW universities and to promote the economic welfare of the faculty.

The collection contains materials from the state and local chapter levels. The acronym AWSUF is used for some folder labeling purposes, even for materials that predate that designation in Box 2.

Phi Alpha Theta is an honorary society for historians. The Lambda Nu chapter at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls was organized in 1966.

This collection consists of records for the classes of 1916, 1920, 1959, 1960, 1961. This includes homecoming arrangements and a 5-year reunion for the Class of 1916, journal records, 5-year, and 50-year reunion info for the Class of 1920, minutes made by the class officers and a class list for the Class of 1959, A records book, journal, and freshman activities list for Class of 1961, as well as notes and a class list for the Class of 1962.

The Coordinating Committee for Higher Education is a statewide organization established for the purpose of coordinating the educational activities of Wisconsin's State Colleges and Universities. In 1968, the organization's name was changed to Coordinating Council for Higher Education (CCHE). This collection is mainly concerned with the reports produced by the Council concerning higher education in Wisconsin. Correspondence and minutes are also included.

The UWRF Coaches Clinic began in June 1950, and continued every summer until June 1979 (the clinic was discontinued because of rising costs and competition from other clinics). It was directed by several faculty members: George K. Schlagenhauf, Philip Belfiori, Fran Polsfoot, Ben Bergsrud, and Judith Wilson. The three day clinic included Headliners such as basketball coaches Bobby Knight, Adolph Rupp, football coach Bud Wilkenson and hockey coach Bob Johnson. The university invited coaches and athletes from the area to come and take part in the sessions taught by the various coaches.

The Coaches Clinic Collection includes various kinds of documentation related to the coaches clinic. This includes contracts from various headliners, lists of participants, pamphlets introducing the clinic and the main speakers, biographies of some coaches, daily schedules of the clinics events, correspondence with prospective headliners and manufacturers of athletic goods, as well as other related material.

This series contains syllabi from Freshman English classes at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. This includes both the Teacher’s and Student’s copies of the Freshman English Syllabus. The earliest year represented in the collection is 1948-49.

The Pi Delta Kappa chapter was established at UW-River Falls in 1969. It is an honorary society for educators and education students.

Thursday Reflections was a faculty lecture series hosted by a student and faculty member presented on Thursday afternoons throughout the school year. Lectures were held in the television studio before a live audience and recorded for television.

This collection included 10 VHS tapes that were converted to MP4.

Between 1991 and 2009, the Kansas City Chiefs called UWRF their summer home. For a few weeks during the summer, the Chief’s players and staff would convene in River Falls to hold their summer training camp. The team utilized services on the UWRF campus, including lodging in the campus dorma. During the programs 18-year period, the training camp had an immensely positive social and economic impact on the River Falls community. Special events were held throughout the camp for community members and visitors to interact with players. Events included a parade, Family Fun Night, scrimmage games, and other social events where fans could meet players on the field for autographs and pictures.

The Chiefs played scrimmage games against other teams, in what was called "The Cheese League," comprised of other National Football League teams that also spent the summer training in Wisconsin, teams included, the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears. The promotion and recruitment of the teams were pursued by then Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson seeking to promote tourism in the state. Mary Halada, who served as the Camp Coordinator, and Mark Kinders, Director of the News Bureau, ran the program.

This collection contains program administrative files, promotional materials, newsletters, and newspaper articles. The materials document the camp’s activities, and events surrounding the program each year. There are also materials for the year preceding their arrival, concerning the decision to relocate to River Falls for summer training. In addition, there are materials that were gathered to put together a 15th-anniversary booklet in 2005.

This series contains the operating budget for the University of Wisconsin System as determined by the Board of Regents. They are also known as the “red book.” Current UW budget information can also be found online. Most of this series consists of volumes, others are on microfiche and CDs.

In 1955, Dr. James J. McLaughlin, a Mathematics professor, was made Director of the newly formed Department of Arts and Sciences. In 1964 these divisions became colleges and McLaughlin became the first Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This series contains McLaughlin's papers which include correspondence, news clippings, budget and promotion materials, and a variety of miscellaneous documents.

This is an artificial series created from Speech Department materials, John Oostendorp materials, and other sources, containing a variety of departmental correspondence; class records; proposal and workshop materials; budget information; annual reports, and other miscellaneous materials Speech Department.

Box 1 contains clerk's correspondence, 1898-1949, alphabetically arranged; and records of city resolutions and bond issues, 2 vols., 1928-1940. Box 2 contains chattel mortgage records, 1893-1901; 2 volumes listing city ordinances, 1895-1949; and the record of city licensing decisions, 1896-1905, in which the names of applicants, dates, license amounts, location, and expiration dates are recorded.

Prospectus of a cooperative established in 1979 to produce alcohol fuel from agricultural products, including technical information about alcohol production, business strategy, a brief history, and biographies of the board of directors.

Papers of Mary Etta Hagan, a descendant of early settlers of New Richmond, Wis. (St. Croix Co.). The collection consists mainly of Hagan's genealogical research into her mother's and father's families (Donohue and Hagan, respectively) and collected family papers. Both families have roots in Ireland. Included are brief family histories and group sheets; both family correspondence and Hagan's research correspondence; clippings; photographs; copies of pages from family Bibles recording births, deaths, and marriages; and collected miscellaneous items relating to various family members. Other family names represented in the papers include Barger, Carroll, McGoldrick, McConville, Mahoney, Scott, and Martin. In addition, there is a scrapbook compiled by S. N. Hawkins containing clippings about an 1899 cyclone that devastated New Richmond, and obituaries of prominent New Richmond citizens.

Typescript genealogies: "A Genealogy of the Dietrich Family and that of the Stiehl and other Related Families" by Floyd L. Haight, mentioning the family names Cunningham, Dowling, Harper, and Rozmenoski, and including notes and letters used in compiling the genealogy; "A Genealogy of the Peters Family" written ca. 1970 by Floyd and Mary Dietrich Haight, including the family names Cline, Cooley, Dietrich, Eberhardt, Kiteley, Klein, Piper, Ramsay, and Simon; and "A Genealogy of the Haight Family" edited by Haight in 1937 and again for certain branches of the family in 1969, mentioning the family names Piatt and Prestedge.

A personal reminiscence by Jennie Hammer and history, 1852-1949, of her Norwegian American family (Twetten and Rude), who settled in Polk County, Wisconsin, circa 1865. Included are family anecdotes, genealogical information, descriptions of family events and general conditions (especially for the period 1880-1949), and information about Hammer's training and experiences as a teacher.

Copy of ordinances, numbered 1-27, of the Village of Hammond, and a water resolution, all passed in May, 1909.

Papers of a Hudson, Wisconsin, man, including Civil War orders (1863-1866) about his service in Company G, 4th Wisconsin Cavalry; as Captain of Company H, 15th Regiment, Corps d'Afrique (1863-1866); and as officer of Company C, 99th Regiment U.S. Colored Troops. Includes muster rolls of the 99th, and correspondence describing his service in Louisiana and Mississippi, including the surrender of New Orleans. Also includes personal correspondence, 1833-1875, with relatives in Connecticut and Rhode Island, especially Eddy Harding, Brooklyn, Connecticut; business papers, 1848-1898, including warranty deeds, an estate list (1849), and the will of Nathaniel Smith, Providence, Rhode Island (1860); and genealogical notes on the Jewell and Barnard families of Star Prairie, Wisconsin.

Clerk's copies of Town Board of Supervisors' warrants submitted to the district overseers of roads. Gives name of person taxed, description of property taxed, the value of the real estate, the total amount of the tax, and in some cases, the value of personal property and poll tax. The tax monies received were used for road and highway care in the respective districts.

Letters received by Heifner, Boyceville, Wisconsin, many of which came from women who had obtained his name from the Diamond Circle, a "lonely hearts" club; also letters to his daughter Lois.
