Phi Alpha Theta is an honorary society for historians. The Lambda Nu chapter at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls was organized in 1966.

The Grants Office was established in 1976. It grew out of a faculty committee. This collection contains several different types of grants, denials, lists of sabbatical leave recipients, and includes materials from the early 1970?s, before the Grants Office was a stand-alone entity on campus.

Papers of Minnesota's first governor during his years as a fur trader, consisting primarily of correspondence among the various American Fur Company agents located in the Wisconsin Territory. Correspondence concerns internal company business; business with Hudson's Bay Fur Company; company agreements with the Dakota Indians; company interest in United States government treaties with the Dakota, Ojibwa, and Winnebago Indians; attempts by the company to prevent war between the Dakota and the Sauk and Fox Indians; relations with missionaries to the Indians of the region; and company disputes with Indian agents Henry R. Schoolcraft and Lawrence Taliaferro.
Correspondents prominent in the early history of Minnesota and Wisconsin include William Aitken, Frederick Ayer, Alexis Bailly, Bernard Brisbois, Ramsay Crooks, Henry Dodge, James Doty, Hercules Dousman, Jean Faribault, Alexander Faribault, Joseph Nicollet, Henry Rice, Joseph Rolette, Henry Schoolcraft, Lawrence Taliaferro, and Lyman Warren.

Photographs created by Charles Francis Smith of houses and families in the vicinity of Elmwood, Wisconsin, circa 1887-1893. Also included are index cards with detailed descriptions for many, but not all, of the included images.

At the time of cataloging, the published issue of the 1972 True Blue yearbook was unavailable for comparison.

Research and annotated resources related to two of Wyman's publications: "The Wisconsin Frontier", published 1998 by Indiana University Press and "Kinnickinnic Country : River Falls in the forties and fifties", published in 2010 by PrintArt, with assistance from Don Richards.

Walker "Mark" Demarquis Wyman, Jr. (1939-) was born in River Falls, Wisconsin to Walker D. and Helen B. (nee ) Wyman. He attended the Ames Laboratory School on the campus of what was then called the River Falls State Teachers College (RFSTC), now known as University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), where his father served in several leadership roles.

Dr. Wyman served 35 years as a professor in the Department of History at Illinois State University and is the author of eight books and numerous essays and articles. Wyman's scholarly focus is on labor, cultural, and social history.

David Orlin Afdahl (July 14, 1927-March 7, 2005) was born to Herman N. (1904-1984) and Gladys, nee Owens, Afdahl (1902-1964), the oldest of three children. David grew up on the family farm southwest of Hammond in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. David was graduated from Baldwin High School and attended UW-River Falls (then River Falls State Teacher's College), where he graduated with a degree in agricultural education. ǂb Ruth Ellen Thompson (1934-2017) was born to Margaret Norma Tubman (1910-2003) and Otto Emil Thompson (1906-2000), the second oldest of three girls. She attended Clear Lake High School, Wisconsin and Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

Ruth "Ruthie" and David were married on August 22, 1953 in Spring Valley. The couple had four children and worked as dairy farmers on the Afdahl family farm. David "Dave" Afdahl was professionally active and held various positions on the Wisconsin Dairy Herd Improvement Cooperative (affiliation of Dairy Herd Improvement Association) over the length of his farming career.

Meeting minute book (1911-1940) of Polk County Fair Society, organized in 1894 and deeded the present Polk County Fair Grounds land in 1900.

Christian and Anna Junkman papers and photographs (undated, 1846-1918, 2021) include materials relating to Anna's parents and siblings, the extended Cope family, and well as Christian's father, William; Glen Junkman and family papers and photographs (1911-1992), also include papers of their daughter, Mary Lorenzen; Estella Clarke (nee Junkman) papers and photographs (1864-1945, 2021) also contain materials related to her husband, William, including the Clark, White, and Ingli families.

Mainly letters (1943-1944) from mother, Karine, sent to John W. Stayberg, while serving in the military during World War II. Topics generally cover everyday activities happening around town and in life. Also includes correspondence from family and friends in the Hudson and Twin Cities metropolitan area and military colleagues, as well as any associated clippings sent with the correspondence. Also included is a short biography on Stayberg and reminiscences about how the archival collection came to be held by donor, Nancy Hawkinson (1999).

John "Bubbs" Winston Stayberg was born in Hudson, Wisconsin on May 8, 1923, the third and youngest child of Karine Marie (nee Jenson) and John Arnt Stayberg. John graduated from Hudson High School in 1941 and worked for Brown & Bigelow , a well-known printing company located in St. Paul, Minnesota, following high school. On June 30th, 1942, John W. Stayberg registered for the military draft, and was enlisted on February 4th, 1943. Stayberg served for 27 months, earning the rank of Corporal while serving with the 16th A. I. B. (Allied Intelligence Bureau), 13th Armored Division. He was reported missing in action April 30, 1945, and died from injuries sustained May 6, 1945 in Germany. Stayberg is buried at the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, Wisconsin. [Biographical information taken from collection.]

Files are partial reproductions of business directories from R. L. Polk's Wisconsin gazetteer, including sections on Ellsworth (1877-1928); Pierce County (1922); and River Falls (1877-1928) created by Dan Geister in his research regarding communities in Pierce County, Wisconsin.

The Sanborn Co. was founded in 1867 by D.A. Sanborn, to draw maps of the downtown districts of cities across the U.S. These maps could then be consulted by insurance companies if a building burned to research different characteristics about the business and the physical structure. The company stopped making the fire insurance maps in 1961, due to other sources being used to obtain the needed information. Today, they serve as a wonderful resource for tracing the growth of cities and tracking where businesses were located decades ago. We have these maps on microfilm for the entire state of Wisconsin. We also have copies of the actual maps in paper format for cities in our four-county area. The dates range from approximately the 1880s to the 1920s for our area. The maps were not issued regularly, so do not expect any pattern as to when the maps came out for various cities.

Ready reference collection of subject files, historically called 'vertical files' (vertical file), arranged by county (Burnett, Pierce, Polk, or St. Croix), thereunder by name of town/city or miscellaneous subject matter deemed of historical interest. Collection is no longer being maintained or added to as of January 2020.

• Letter from Vincent Price (1978) to David and Sam Day thanking them for company and dinner. David, then Manager of the University Bookstore at UWRF, assisted Price when he was on campus for an interpretive performance on February 12th, 1978. Day was responsible for picking up Price from the airport, bringing him to his hotel and the event at UWRF, and then making sure he had dinner, returned to the hotel, and made his flight out the following morning.
• b Day and his wife, Sam (a student at UWRF) prepared a meal for Price at their home in the event that Price accepted their invitation to dine at their home. David Day later asked Price about why he had accepted their invitation. Price, a noted gourmet, said that "...he had been traveling a lot and was missing home. So he then explained why when we offered a home meal, he accepted without hesitation."
  The Days served ham with pineapple carousal and scalloped potatoes, which Day would comment on in 2020, "How very mid-western...". Price was a very gracious guest and even though Price said that "...he wanted to be back to the hotel no later than 11:15", he didn't make it back to his hotel until well after 1AM. His thank you letter to the Days, undated but mailed within the week after the event in a stationary envelope from the William Penn Hotel in Pittsburg, PA, stated, "What a delightful time you gave me in River Falls. I did so enjoy your company, the audience and reception and especially our visit in your home!"

George "Buster" H. Brown (1888-1973) was born to Jane (nee Doyle) and Charles H. Brown in the Town of Warren, Wisconsin (St. Croix County) in June of 1888. He had one older brother, Charles Edward Brown (1885-1960). George's mother died in 1905 and George appears to have lived with his uncle, George D. Brown in Hudson for a short time around the time of her death.
By 1910, Brown was working as a clerk at the railroad office in Hudson, while living with his father. The 1940 census lists Brown's work as farmer, living in the Town of Richmond (St. Croix County), WI with his wife, Grace, and three children, Bernice, Edmund, and Elaine.

School district papers kept by the clerk of School District No. 1 (consolidated) which operated three schools (Bass Lake State Graded School, Round Lake School, and Trade Lake State Graded School), including insurance policies, treasurer's reports and bonds, school censuses, clerk's annual reports, minutes of annual and district board meetings, teachers' contracts, and school registers.

Annual printed directories of public officials having jurisdiction within the county, prepared and published by the county clerk. Directories list national and state officers and legislators, court justices and officers, county board members, county officers and certain county employees, and town, village, and city officers and supervisors.
More recent directories also show members of each county board standing committee, and U.S. census population totals for each local unit.
Included are directories for these years: 1930, 1943/4, 1944/5, 1947/8, 1949/50, 1959/60-1974, 1978, 1979, and 2004-2014. Additional directories may have been added since this cataloging.

Proceedings of the Board of Supervisors including minutes of Board meetings, resolutions, committee reports, reports of county officers and commissions, financial reports, and communications to the Board. The 1877-1881 volume is a photocopy of the original. (The original volume was charred in a courthouse fire prior to 1887, so it was photocopied for preservation and then discarded.) Volume A is an exact transcription of official proceedings as published in the Burnett County Sentinel. (The original volume for some of these years was destroyed in the courthouse fire.).
